How to free up disk space on Windows
What is Disk Cleanup in Windows 11?
The Windows ‘Disk Cleanup’ tool, is employed when your computer starts running out of RAM.
Disk Cleanup was first introduced in Windows 98 and has since been part of every operating system, including Windows 11. The latest version has a slightly advanced form accessible through the Settings app, allowing users to clear storage space quickly, but the Disk Cleanup utility is still available.
If you are a Windows 10 or 11 user, it is very simple to find it.
1st step is to right click on the start button from your taskbar. Then, select ‘Settings’. Right after that, a window pops up (see image above) where you will need to click on ‘System’ the tab named ’Storage’ (see image on the right)

Windows, since the 98 version, includes permanent and temporary files.
Although, it looks different as it used to be on previous versions on Windows, the Window ‘Cleanup’ tool, (still as useful only with a different interface) is employed when your computer starts running out of RAM.
We recommend to use the ‘Disk Cleanup’ tool peridocally. It helps removing files from your computer that are unnecessary, duplicates of other files, online data navigation such as cookies and images which are saved automatically every time you open a website.
