With so many apps and communication programs, we come to only think about the sophistication and how easy it is to use these, not thinking twice before handing access to our younger and teenage children. Never did it cross our minds that we can be handing our children access to communication with predators or criminals. One of the worldwide used platforms that all our children know today, Discord, is one of those platforms in which some children have gotten lost or wrapped up around. This communication platform provides its users with the ability to make voice or video calls, send texts, share links, and join communities known as servers, and can be used either on a computer, or mobile device.

As any other communication platform, Discord, too has its dark side. New cases have surfaced of children going missing after initiating communication with predators disguised as young gamers chatting to them on the other end. There have been discoveries that this platform also contains channels full of pornography, illicit activities and even racist groups. Remember that Discord is not the only platform that children or young teenagers use to communicate. One of the many tactics for predators to prey on children is to refer them to other social apps such as Kik, TikTok, Houseparty, live.me, or meet me just to name a few.
